TRANSCENDENCE DEFINED
The Latin verb scandere means "to climb", so transcend has the basic meaning of climbing so high that you cross some boundary. A transcendent experience is one that takes you out of yourself and convinces you of a larger life or existence; in this sense, it means something close to "spiritual". Merriam-Webster
TRANSCENDENCE QUOTES
Transcendence: “A moment in which your self fades away and you feel connected to the all.” —Susan Cain
“To live on a day-to-day basis is insufficient for human beings; we need to transcend, transport, escape; we need meaning, understanding, and explanation; we need to see over-all patterns in our lives. We need hope, the sense of a future.” ― Oliver Sacks
It's like wine and food, or coffee and a pastry - coffee's awesome and a chocolate croissant is awesome, and together, they're transcendent. —Chris Thile
TRANSCENDENT EXPERIENCES
Transcendent experiences often involve intense feelings, for example:
• Music that makes you cry
• Music that gives you wings
• Falling into / being in a flow state
• Intense mindfulness (present moment focus)
• A peak or a mystical experience
• Feeling connected to eternity (to everything / everyone)
• Love: falling into, falling out of, deep connection
• Sensing eternity
• Life transitions (which can become doorways to spiritual or creative awakenings)
TRANSCENDING FEAR – for writers
“Fear is felt by writers at every level. Anxiety accompanies the first word they put on paper and the last.” ―Ralph Keyes, The Courage to Write: How Writers Transcend Fear
